Pegasus win multiple medals!
Pegasus Gymnastics Club ran the annual Pegasus Open at Mote Park Leisure centre. The nationally recognised competition attracted competitors from all over the country and abroad as far as Scotland and Brazil.
The Friday event saw gymnasts between 7 and 11 years of age competing in the Development Open competition.
In the 2003 age group Isaac Frimston took the silver medal overall just 0.150 away from the top spot, and continued to the title for High Bar and a further 3 silver medals for Parallel Bars, Rings and Pommel. Sam Ghinn and Oliver Wroe competed in the 2002 age group. Oliver Wroe finished in joint 6th place in a field of 17 gymnasts having competed well and showed great improvement. Sam Ghinn took the silver medal along with the Pommel title and two bronze medals for Floor and Parallel bars.
Saturday saw the heat turn up with the voluntary competition, ranging from gymnasts under 12 years to seniors competing on Olympic criteria.
The Under 12 age group saw Euan Cox, Reece Shephard and Finlay Lincoln competing as part of the team event also as individuals. With their routines getting progressively harder the boys included some new skills and unfortunately making a few mistakes along with starting with only 3 in the team instead of 4 the boys finished in 6th place as a team. Euan finished in 7th place and took the silver medal on Pommel, Recce finished in 15th, and Finlay in 31st. Joseph McMorrow competed in the Under 14 category and finished the competition in 19th.
James Hall and Courtney Tulloch selected as members of the 2016 Olympic squad competed in the junior age group and the last round of the day. James finished in 2nd place behind team mate Courtney Tulloch, taking the title on High Bar, Pommel and Floor with clean, sophisticated routines and 3rd place on Rings. Courtney took the overall title along with Rings and Parallel Bars, 2nd place on High Bar, Vault and Pommel.
Sunday morning saw the start of the women’s event. Competing in the level 4 categories A clean performance saw Josie Griffiths finish in 1st place, also taking the titles for vault, bars and beam. Grace Miller, Emily Pearce and Annabel Agba also competed at level 4. Improved performances by all three girls saw Grace finish in 3rd place Emily in 6th and Annabel in 7th. A clean Pegasus sweep of the podium for the bar medals with Annabel taking 2nd and Emily 3rd place. Annabel also took bronze on vault, and Grace Bronze on Beam and the floor title.
Charlotte Wroe competed in level 3 finishing in 6th place. Competing in the level 2 category Lucy Fitzsimons finished in 4th place, taking the title on beam. Harriet Day and Hattie Molloy competed in the Regional Junior challenge category and finished in 4th and 5th place. Hattie also took the Beam title and Harriet narrowly missing out on the vault title by 0.05!
